Toy Story 4 Review
Spoilers!!
One of the things that blew me away about the film is how realistic they looked, not the toys, they still had an animated look about them, which is something I like, but the scenery. I didn’t notice it all the way through the film but in the scene at the beginning of the film when RC Racer is stuck in the guttering and it’s raining and you can see the leaves, it literally looks as though they are filming the situation in real life. I’m so impressed with Pixar’s attention to detail.
I really loved how funny this film was, there were so many little moments that I loved. For example there was an action man that kept wanting a high five but everyone kept on ignoring him, it wasn’t the obvious part of the scene to focus on, it was something to watch in the background and I appreciated that.
I thought Forky was hilarious but not in an obvious way and all the other characters had some really funny moments, like Giggles McDimples walking down the steps of her House and then driving for less than a second to get somewhere she could have gotten to by jumping. Also the toys being in charge of the car and Ducky and Bunny’s weird sense of humour.
Gabby Gabby wasn’t going to be the villain, I knew that walking in, but it did feel like for the longest time ever that Woody was on a date with one of those people that want to harvest your organs. It was a little creepy, however very quickly I did fall for Gabby Gabby and she made me feel sorry for her. That moment when she gets rejected by Harmony is just gut wrenching even thought I half expected it. I was however very happy that she found a child in the end even though it seemed a little convenient. I just hope they’re going to make some Gabby Gabby merchandise and I can’t wait to Disneybound as her in the parks.
Bo Peep was not a standout character to me, I feel like she was very well represented in the trailer and that gave away her true character. I was half expecting for her to be the villain of the film but I was happy to see that they didn’t go down that path. I think it’s good that she didn’t stick to her stereotype of just a pretty face and showed just how capable she was at taking care of herself
As Toy Story 3 ended so perfectly, it was dramatic and had a great story and was wrapped up in a neat little bow and nobody thought that they would need to make another film. When it was announced that they were coming out with Toy Story 4 they said it was because they had a worthwhile story line and I’m not entirely sure that it was. That’s not to say that it wasn’t entertaining and enjoyable to watch but I just don’t think it was completely necessary and that because I didn’t like the ending of the film. I really liked the idea that Woody was with Bullseye, Jessie, Buzz, Slinky and the rest of the gang at the end of Toy Story 3. I would have much preferred for Bo Peep to join Woody and go back to being Bonnies toy but that didn’t happen and I feel like Woody needs a child, Bo Peep isn’t enough for him. Overall the ending of Toy Story 3 was a lot more satisfying than the ending of Toy Story 4.
I cannot believe how many Easter eggs there were so I’m just going to list them:
There were Luxo balls on the backs of the seats of the back of the Ferris wheel.
The guy in charge of the stall that holds Ducky and Bunny has a pizza planet truck tattooed on the back of his leg.
Bonnie wears a rubber ring that is inspired by the style of Nemo.
At the nursery Bonnie attends one of the children has an Alls Toy Barn lunch box.
Bo Peeps sheep hand her a grape soda pin badge.
In the antiques store there is a board game called knick Knack and another called Lifted, these refer to Pixar shorts.
Tin toy makes an appearance inside the vending machine in
The carnival moves to New Stanton Beach which is reference to Andrew Stanton who is a well credited Pixar legend.
These are just a few of the many Easter eggs that I noticed. If you spotted any that I didn’t you can comment them below, also let me know what you thought of the film. Was it worth it? Which is your favourite? Do you want a toy story 5?
